What’s new in AutoCAD 2008?
Layer properties Per Viewport
In AutoCAD 2008 you can assign layer properties that will affects only the current viewport. Allows you to assign and override a specific color, linetype, lineweight and plotstyle for each layer.
Dashboard interface improvements
More 2D commands have been added to the dashboard. Also allows customization including the ability to add, move or remove columns.
Many Wishes Granted
More than 35 enhancements in response to Autodesk User Group International (AUGI) top-10 feature wish lists, and feedback forms.
Excel as an AutoCAD object
Excel can be inserted into drawing as a AutoCAD object. It combines AutoCAD and Excel together onto one easy to use Table. Now your Data is link so they when data is changed in Excel, the AutoCAD object will also be updated automatically (True bi-directional functionality)
Enhanced Xref Management
In AutoCAD 2008 you never have to rename your Xref’s again. Now you easily updates your Xref’s all in one location!

Annotation Text
Annotation Text gets two new properties, size and display. Text can auto hide itself in a viewport if the size property doesn’t match the scale of the viewport. This also can be overridden to allow visibility as well.
Columns in MTEXT
MTEXT now has the ability to span accross multiple columns. In addition you can control the spacing between these columns as well and adjust the size of them independently using grips.
MLeader
AutoCAD 2008 included multiple leaders - leaders with multiple leader lines. Allows text attachment, justification, and the combining of multiple leaders into one. New leader lines can also be added to existing ones. The new multiple leader panel is accessible from the dashboard.
Third-party Compatibility
Third-party add-on applications based on Visual LISP or AutoLISP, VBA, ActiveX and ObjectARX languages are compatible with AutoCAD 2008 32-bit.
More DWF Control
Autodesk has also added the ability to toggle layers on/off for DWF Underlays.
DGN Support
Now import DGN (Microstation files) directly into AutoCAD 2008 plus attach these files as an overlay (useful for consultant files and floor plan bases).
In addition you can clip the DGN drawing and change its properties. An export to DGN is also available.
64 Bit Version Available
A 64-bit version of the AutoCAD 2008 will also be available with the upcoming release.
Compatible with 2007
Most programs supported in AutoCAD 2007 will run fine in 2008. AutoCAD 2008 is binary compatible with 2007 and shares the same DWG file format.
